Why aerate your Texas pond or lake?

Improve the appearance of your pond through aeration! The image to the right shows what diffused aeration looks like on the surface, with just a circle of bubbles coming up from the bottom of your pond. Aeration is a natural, effective and safe water quality management tool that increases the amount of dissolved oxygen in a pond or lake. This achieves a number of goals:

  • By stabilizing water chemistry (pH and alkalinity) and increased mixing of air and water through the water body, algae growth is reduced, and breakdown of muck and sediments is enhanced.
  • Your pond stays cleaner, and odors from the breakdown of organic material are reduced.
  • Increasing oxygen levels will reduce the cost and frequency of chemical treatments needed to reduce algae or weed growth.
  • By increasing dissolved oxygen levels and reducing stratification or temperature layers in a pond, fish (and their prey) can breathe easier while using more of the pond, instead of just one layer where oxygen levels and temperature are acceptable

Diffused Aeration

Diffused aeration uses an air pump to feed air to a diffuser that sits on the bottom of your pond. The diffuser sends multiple columns of bubbles towards the surface, aerating the water along the way. All you see are small bubbles on the surface, so it does not have the visual appeal of a fountain or display aerator. But, for pond and lake owners serious about providing the best habitats for fish, controlling muck, algae and reducing odors, especially in deeper ponds, bottom aeration is essential!

Surface Aerators

Surface Aerators are ideal for shallower ponds, and offer visible water movement as well as optional lighting. They are very effective at increasing oxygen in upper layers of the pond or lake, and also offer the advantage of creating surface water motion that can reduce mosquito reproduction.

Single aerators are available from 1/2 HP to 5 HP. The larger units can aerate a pond of up to 5 surface acres; for larger ponds, you can use multiple aerators.
