“A pond or lake without a fountain is flat and boring.”

Decorative fountains and fountain aeration not only look good, they can improve the health and environment of your pond or lake. They can keep water cleaner, prevent odors, increase oxygen for fish populations, and even hold mosquitoes at bay. Most developers wouldn’t build a pond without a fountain. That’s why so many homeowner’s associations, colleges, office parks and other commercial and private properties in Dallas and Fort Worth include decorative or aerating fountains in their plans. Don’t be flat and boring, get a fountain!

Which do you need – a decorative fountain or display aerator?

Decorative Fountains

Decorative fountains, or display fountains, are designed to look great, and throw controlled jets of water in specific directions and heights – the higher, the better! Most display fountains are floating assemblies, anchored to the pond bottom. They generally pull water from close to the surface, although some pump options can pull water from different depths in the pond to reduce temperature layers called thermoclines.

The water jets absorb some oxygen on their trip through the air, but they don’t break up or splash a lot, resulting in limited aeration of water near the surface.

Display Aerators or Aerating Fountains

Aerating Fountains and Display Aerators look like fountains, but move a higher volume of water, usually more than double an equivalent decorative fountain. The heavier jets don’t throw as high, but usually discharge in a wider, splashy pattern to create more water motion. Some models can pump water from deeper in the pond to reduce temperature layers.
